Dimension Shopfitters just turned 20 years old and remains one of the last specialist retail fit out companies in New Zealand.
Having started out as a small joinery workshop in 1998 with Nick and 6 staff and operating from premises that were 500 square feet – growing quickly and struggling to meet fitout demand at the Glenfield Shopping Mall which was being upgraded at the time it transitioned to Dimension Shopfitters with Nick and Ingrid Turpin at the helm in 2004.
The company now operates from premises that cover 2900 square feet of manufacturing and office space with 67 employees dedicated to excellence in the retail fitout space and still meeting the demands of retail centre fitouts and major developments across NZ.
In fact, five employees have been with the company from that start date bringing together 100 years of experience. There are a large number of staff currently sitting on service of 10 years or more. This provides a unique skillset and knowledge base that only comes from that length of service and that knowledge as industry IP is a huge benefit to our customers.
The team at Dimension has remained true to its core skill of working in the retail space without diversification into other interior fitout markets or sectors. It has fitted out over 110,000 sq m of retail space, this has enabled Dimension to be classified as experts in their field.
A simple business purpose for the company can be expressed as “We make retail brands come to life”.
The first conversation a retailer will have with us is around an empty retail space under negotiation to be leased and an opening date for their brand. That can be in any mall or main street shopping precinct across NZ and any size or shape of retail space.
They may have engaged a designer or Architect to develop a store look and feel along with the overall design intent. Pricing and timing of that build is now critical.
That’s when the Dimension team get to work for the customer.
A retailer can engage Dimension to complete the cost estimation, full manufacture, build, install, Project management, importation, and storage along with cost management of a complete fitout or a nationwide roll out.

The most critical factor in any retail refresh or fitout is time. The management of that and how it is allocated is actually the most important aspect to our business. There will be timeframes from the start – pricing to be returned by a certain date, access to the site on a particular date, manufacturing lead and build dates, a construction program and a practical completion date, handover date, defects completion date and ultimately an opening date for the retailer to present its brand to the customer.
