Farsight Shares Retail Compliance Insights with the NZRIA

In March 2024, the Farsight team was invited by the New Zealand Retail Interiors Association (NZRIA) to share their expertise in retail compliance with its members. The event, held at the stunning Tailor Inc offices in Auckland, was an evening filled with valuable insights, as Rob and Max from Farsight guided attendees through the complexities of compliance in the retail and construction industries.

The Challenges of Compliance

Compliance in retail and construction can be tricky due to complex regulations, high costs, and inconsistent requirements among different councils. Rob and Max began the presentation by exploring these common hurdles and how they impact architects, designers, contractors, suppliers, and clients. Their insights provided clarity on why compliance can be so challenging and the best ways to approach these issues.

The Role of Building Consent Authorities

Understanding the role of Building Consent Authorities (BCAs) is crucial for successful compliance. Rob and Max explained the differences between a Territorial Authority and a BCA, detailing their responsibilities in processing consent applications and conducting inspections. This information is essential for those involved in construction or interior design projects, as it helps to navigate the approval process efficiently.

Types of Approvals Needed

Rob and Max also discussed the various types of approvals that might be required for different projects. They covered Building Consents, Discretionary Exemptions, and Exempt Works, providing attendees with a clear understanding of which approval is needed in various scenarios. This clarity can save time and reduce the stress often associated with compliance processes.

Tips for a Successful Application

One of the key takeaways from the presentation was how to make a successful compliance application. Farsight's experts outlined the necessary documents, explained the submission process, and discussed typical application timelines. This practical guidance offers a clear roadmap for those seeking compliance approvals, helping to ensure a smoother process from start to finish.

What Happens After Consent is Issued?

Rob and Max also covered what happens after a consent is issued. They discussed the inspection process, Certificates of Public Use (CPU), and Certificates of Code Compliance (CCC). Understanding these steps is crucial for completing a project and ensuring it meets all legal requirements.

Farsight's Commitment to Supporting Compliance

The Farsight team values opportunities to share knowledge and support the wider community. We thank the NZRIA for inviting us to speak at this event. The NZRIA represents a diverse group of professionals, and we look forward to building relationships and sharing our expertise.
