Gartshore have earned themselves a reputation as leaders in the interior fitout and joinery industries, having operated nationwide for more than 65 years.
Continually reinvesting profits back into the business enables Gartshore to have the most current plant, processes, systems, technology, and staff training, ensuring they can meet the demands of some of New Zealand’s most prestigious fitout projects now and in the future.

Radical changes in the joinery market in the wake of the COVID pandemic saw multiple award-winning interior fitout company Gartshore’s retail work plummet from 80% of its business to 40%. The make-up of projects saw growth in large-scale fitouts, particularly accommodation services, hospitals, and residential apartments. Adapting to this shift has caused Gartshore to develop greater competencies in scalability, quality control and execution of multi-stage, multi-room projects.
Managing large-scale projects over several years has had many challenges, but the learnings from these challenges has helped the Gartshore team improve what they do moving forward. Four years after the first lockdown, Gartshore have emerged as New Zealand’s most awarded fitout company particularly in the Hotel accommodation space.
Gartshore’s craftsmanship on hotel projects has become an area of specialisation, something they are very proud of. In the past three years, Gartshore have completed joinery and fitout works for Cordis Hotel, Auckland; IBIS Hotel Tainui, Hamilton, Hamilton; Naumi Hotel, Wellington; Te Arikinui Hotel Pullman, Auckland Airport; and soon to open Horizon Hotel by Sky City, Auckland.
We look at three of their more recent projects in more detail below.
Te Arikinui Pullman Auckland Airport
Construction Co – Dominion Constructors
Designers – Warren and Mahoney and Space Studio
As a sub-contractor for Dominion Constructors, Gartshore manufactured and installed and installed the ground-floor front of house counters and café, interior walls feature panels, joinery around each of the 311 hotel room doors and fitout of the hotel’s bar and restaurant. This project took us over 8 months to complete from initial design, samples and mock-ups and challenged nearly everyone who worked on it. This outstanding completed hotel now stands as one of their flagship projects and smashed their previous capacity ceiling.
The complexity and craftsmanship required is something Gartshore are known for throughout the industry, the Pullman project certainly tested our abilities for example the Executive Bar was formed with 3D printed moulds with close to 400kgs of stainless steel melted into liquid form and then poured into the 3D moulds.
(2,200sqm of interior wall panels, hand crafted feature wall and 311 Matariki designed door frames were manufactured by the Gartshore joinery team and installed on site.)
Naumi Hotel Wellington
Designer – Material Creative
Gartshore have seen continued success at the Naumi Hotel project in Wellington working with designers Material Creative to redevelop 62 hotel rooms, front of house, restaurants, kitchen, bars, and the conference facility. This project was carried out over various stages all whilst the Hotel remained fully operational. It was delivered on time and under budget. To cap off such a successful project it has received over 20 awards both nationally and internationally.
As with most redevelopment projects, Naumi Wellington was not without its challenges. With two of the stages being carried out during Covid, Gartshore had to manage the client’s tight budget with numerous value engineering proposals being worked through with Material Creative to ensure the budget was met without compromising the design intent. Gartshore also had to resolve numerous structural issues during construction, adding to the list of challenges to overcome. It is their transparent and proactive approach to delivering these projects that puts Gartshore at the forefront of the industry.
Horizon by SkyCity, Auckland
Construction Co - Fletcher
Designer – Warren and Mahoney
A project years in the making, this newest 5 star hotel by SkyCity is designed with American white ash timber veneer joinery and Gartshore manufactured and installed this in each of the 303 rooms over 12 levels. The standard for quality was extremely high and needed to be both heavy duty for regular use and visually beautiful. Gartshore completed a variety of works throughout the project with detailed brass work, lighting, and stonework.
As Gartshore have honed their processes and systems to suit multi-room projects, they have secured contracts for several retirement villages, hospitals, apartments, and schools. Alongside their decades long experience in retail, restaurants and commercial office fitouts, they have the team, facilities and know-how to deliver projects ranging from small to large budget projects with excellence. When considering the joinery and fitout supplier for your next project, a good place to start is by getting in touch with the experienced team at Gartshore.
Gartshore’s Joinery Manufacturing Factory in Tauranga
Managing Director, Rob Gartshore says that it’s through continual reinvestment in our staff, systems and technology that we are able to deliver these projects. You need to have confidence in your own internal resources to diversify into large scale bespoke projects such as these and at Gartshore we are fortunate to have those resources in abundance. Whilst the initial diversification away from our traditional revenue stream was challenging and took continual risk management and plenty of hard work, the multitude of awards our team has won both nationally and internationally is a reflection of our capability to deliver when others can’t.
